International Cooperation Activities at VNUF in Early May 2025

On May 5, 2025, the Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF) organized a vibrant series of international cooperation activities, demonstrating the university’s increasingly active role in the global research and education network. These events not only contributed to the ongoing collaborative programs but also opened up various opportunities for strategic development in the future.

1. Consultation Workshop on Capacity Gaps in Sustainable Agriculture

The workshop was organized by VNUF as part of the Erasmus+ HARVEST project (Higher Education Leadership on Agricultural and Food Rights for Environmental Sustainability) funded by the European Commission, attracting the participation of research institutes, international organizations, businesses, and experts in the field of sustainable agriculture.

Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien, President of VNUF, delivered the opening remarks.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao The Anh, Vice Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS), presented on the topic: "Developing Ecological Agriculture to Support Sustainable Development in Vietnam."

Discussion Session

The discussion session addressed capacity gaps in training and practice, labor market needs, and proposed solutions such as the development of short-term courses, integration of interdisciplinary knowledge, and increased involvement of businesses in training. The workshop contributed to the orientation of building modern training programs closely aligned with the development of ecological and sustainable agriculture.

2. Welcoming Experts from the University of Helsinki, Finland under the MOBILITY Project

VNUF welcomed Prof. Emeritus Dr. Markku Kanninen and Dr. Dipjoy Chakma from the University of Helsinki, Finland, who visited to teach and conduct training activities under the MOBILITY project on faculty and student exchange.

During the meeting, the university leadership and faculty representatives had in-depth discussions on the current collaboration program and future expansion directions. The two experts are scheduled to lead a training session on "Writing Erasmus Grant Proposals" and share insights on climate change, thereby enhancing the capacity of faculty, staff, and students.

 

3. Kick-off Workshop for Vietnam–Switzerland Joint Research Project Funded by NAFOSTED and SNSF

The kick-off workshop launched the joint research project titled: "Nature-Based Solutions for Reducing Soil and Water-Related Natural Disasters in the Context of Climate Change and Sustainable Development in Vietnam," co-chaired by VNUF and the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH, Switzerland).

Prof. Dr. Massimiliano Schwarz from Bern University of Applied Sciences delivered a keynote presentation.

The four-year project is funded by the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). This flagship international research collaboration lays a scientific foundation for nature-based solutions to climate change adaptation in Vietnam.

4. Consultation on Cooperation Program with Korean Partners

VNUF hosted a consultation session with experts, scientists, and administrators to promote the development of an international cooperation program in Remote Sensing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) with partners from Korea.
